A Public Service Annoucement

Posted in Memory by Andy Hall on August 27, 2012

Here in Texas we’re having a bad year for West Nile Virus. It’s a concern every summer, but 2012 has seen an usually high number of cases and fatalities. Folks who are outdoors a lot should take reasonable precautions against mosquitoes, and watch for the symptoms of illness.

That said, please don’t call 9-1-1- every time you get bit by a ‘skeeter:

I wouldn’t wish a hurricane on anybody, but you don’t have to live long on the Gulf coast before you fall into the mindset that “I’m glad it’s going over there, and not here.” Best thoughts and prayers for those in Isaac’s path.

Have we become that paranoid, soft or incapable of putting life into perspective that we have to dial 9-1-1 for a mosquito bite? How long before we see people walking around wrapped in giant bubbles, afraid to come into contact with anything or anyone that represents even the slightest threat?
