Beautiful old chamber. When was the building erected?
1930s.
If you can get ahold of the HBO film Recount (about the 2000 presidential election in Florida), in includes near the end a recreation of the oral arguments in that case — aside from the specific content, it’s a good recreation of how oral arguments at the SC go.
Andy, if you’re going to feature the Supremes on the Friday Night Concert, this selection leaves much to be desired from a musical point of view. I’d prefer selections from Derrick Wang’s upcoming opera “Scalia/Ginsburg.”
NPR’s Nina Totenberg explains (be sure to click the link to hear the story, including excerpts from the opera): http://www.npr.org/2013/07/10/200137481/scalia-v-ginsburg-supreme-court-sparring-put-to-music
The world premiere is July, 2015 and the Notorious R.B.G. will attend. More at the composer’s site: http://www.derrickwang.com/scalia-ginsburg/
