Andy-In return, my favorite Robin Williams’ moment; Ed Bradley’s interview of Jonathan Winters’ during a profile of Robin Williams: http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/1986-jonathan-winters-and-robin-williams-improvise/. I’m grateful Jonathan didn’t live to witness Robin’s fate.
I was surprised that more of the intial news stories didn’t mention Jonathan Winters’ influence on Williams. That was almost the first thing I thought of.
I saw another clip in which they were both guests of Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. They were extraordinarily tuned into each other. Winters was a major fan of the younger man and Williams made it his mission to make sure his generation learned of and appreciated Winters’ genius. Like Williams, Winters struggle with severe mental illness, bipolar disorder. Here is an appreciation of Jonathan Winters that Robin Williams wrote for the New York Times after the death of his mentor and dear friend. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/16/arts/television/robin-williams-recalls-the-lessons-of-jonathan-winters.html
That’s wonderful. “A rebel without a pause.”
Agreed. That whole write-up was sensational.
It becomes suitable for viewing at work if you have a private office and headphones! Thanks much, Andy.
