It’s a fine vision. We owe a great debt to the people who devoted their lives to making it a reality. We’re not quite there yet, but because of them we’re much, much further along the way.
Nast is a fascinating cartoonist. He was very sympathetic to the Chinese immigrants and to African-Americans. But boy \did he hate the Irish and feared the Catholic church.
Yeah, but he didn’t get the nickname “Thomas Nasty” for nothing. He had a virulent anti-Catholic, anti-Irish streak that came up a lot in some of his later cartoons.
Happy Thanksgiving Mr. Hall!

Happy Thanksgiving, Andy.
Thanks. You, too.
Thank you, Andy! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, as well!

And Happy belated Thanksgiving…
No kiddin’. He pretty much defined the nasty caricature of the Irish immigrant.
Beautiful picture. Nast is one of my favorite artists, more than just a mere cartoonist.
