Dead Confederates, A Civil War Era Blog

Steamboat Book Update and Review

Posted in Memory by Andy Hall on November 13, 2012

My colleague Jim Schmidt, author of Galveston and the Civil War and other Civil War titles, interviewed me recently for his blog, Civil War Medicine (and Writing).

Also, Mark Lardas, a history author and book reviewer for the Galveston County Daily News, puts up his review of the Buffalo Bayou steamboat book. “Surprising and informative?” That works.

I’ll be signing books Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17, at the Galveston Bookshop from 2 to 4 p.m. I’d be happy to meet and talk with any blog readers in the area. If for nothing else, come and meet Gus. You’ll be glad you did.

It was informative, and it did contain a lot of stuff that will surprise a reader unfamiliar with the subject.

I recommended it at the Gulf Coast Ship Modelling Society meeting last Saturday, too. Would like to get you as a speaker for one of their meetings. I understand that you will be speaking at the Houston Maritime Museum about this subject early in 2013.

Wish I could come down to the Galveston Bookstore on Saturday, but I am already scheduled to work on the book sale for the Helen Hall Library at that same time.

Thanks very much. I’ll contact you offline about the Gulf Coast Ship Modelling Society. The Houston Maritime Museum thing is on Thursday evening, December 13. Hope to meet you there.

I really enjoyed your book on Grierson’s Raid, BTW. Ben Grierson is a favorite of mine, a man who hardly gets his due most of the time.

Andy, thanks for mentioning Mark. We knew each other as engineering students and wargamers back at the University of Michigan. I didn’t know he was such a distinguished author. I’m trying to find something he wrote for me when I edited the engineering student magazine. It was about sky-diving, and titled “Watch out for that first step …”

Andy what are the chances of having this available as an ebook in either epub or mobi format?

John, thanks for asking. I was informed recently by the publisher that it will be available in e-book form in several weeks. Several folks have asked me about that, so I’m really glad that’s coming. I don’t have a firm date, but I’ll put it up as soon as I do.
