Thanks for this, Andy, didn’t Springsteen record an album of Woody Guthrie songs a couple of years ago?
Three generations of the Guthrie family are scheduled to do a benefits concert for Haiti on Valentine’s Day in Pittsfield near here in February, should be fantastic!

Hey, Marc. This is from Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions Band, which released a couple of albums and toured c. 2006. I understand the tour did better in Europe than in the U.S. The songs are mostly (but not all) traditional folks ballads, most made famous by Pete Seeger, who was often covering originals by Woody Guthrie. I’ve put up a couple of similar videos here and here.

These are almost all old songs, but the arrangement and depth of instrumentation Springsteen brings to them is nothing like anything I’ve seen or heard. It’s not quite Spector’s “wall of sound,” but it comes close.

Why does this song remind me so much of this song?
